Mobile, ALA. – South Alabama softball traveled to Lafayette, LA. to take on the #12 Ragin Cajuns in a top two series. The Cajuns got the best of the Jags by winning all three games in the series and remaining on top of the Sun Belt. The Cajuns have won 77 straight Sun Belt conference series, the nation’s longest active streak dating back to 2013.
“This is always a tough series with two good teams competing. These games make you better individually and as a team. We will evaluate the areas that we need to improve and be a better team because of it,” Head Coach Becky Clark said.
The Jags versus the Ragin Cajuns was a top-two match-up in the Sun Belt. In game one, the Jags pitched star Olivia Lackie and gave five runs on five hits. The Cajuns beat the Jags with a score of 7-5. In game two, the Ragin Cajuns continued to be hot with the bats, winning 8-0.
In game three, the Jags kept it close, but a pair of home runs by the Cajuns put them ahead. The Cajuns took the lead and ran with it. This is the first time this season the Jags have been swept. They are 25-13 overall in the season and 8-4 in conference play, ranking second in the Sun Belt.
The Jags still have a lot of softball left before the conference tournament next month. The team was able to get the wins against Nicholls and Appalachian State and is looking to keep the streak going when they play Georgia Southern in a three-game series, starting on Friday, April 21.
