MOBILE, Ala. – The Jags officially wrapped up their football season last month in the R + L Carriers New Orleans Bowl against Western Kentucky. Though the game did not go as planned, the South Alabama football team has much to be proud of, considering the feats they accomplished this season.
For the first time since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2018, the Jags finished with a winning season and a record of 10-2 in the regular season. Their only losses came from UCLA by 1 point and Troy by 4. It was the first time that South had ever started 5-1 to begin the season. The team had tough road wins against Central Michigan, Louisiana, Georgia Southern, and Southern Miss. This was truly a special season for the Jags in many ways.
Quarterback Carter Bradley broke South’s single-season school passing record with 3,336 yards while running back La’Damian Webb broke the single-season rushing record with 1,026 yards. The Jags also finished with a top-25-ranked defense.
The University of South Alabama will have two players represented in the annual Senior Bowl held right here in Mobile. Cornerback Darrelle Luter Jr. and wide receiver Jalen Wayne will both have the opportunity to be scouted by key decision-makers from all teams in the NFL. Wayne was also invited to the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis from Feb. 27 to March 6.
South has a great deal of talent coming back, like Bradley and Webb, and will look to build off this historic season. We look forward to seeing the Jags back in action on Sept. 2 as they open the season at Tulane.
