Time to print your resume and put on your business casual best – the annual Communication Career Day is upon us again! This yearly student event will take place on Nov. 3 in the Student Center from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Communication Career Day is an opportunity for students across all majors to engage with industry professionals, gain interview experience, and brush up on their resume writing skills. The event is free to all students who wish to participate and enhance their employable qualifications.

Professor Nadia Bush, a senior instructor in strategic communication and public relations, has been the spearhead for this event as the chair of the Communication Career Day committee. Bush hopes the event will continue to provide resources and opportunities that will strengthen students’ confidence as they enter the workforce.

This year’s event will include 52 industry professionals, armed with advice for all students and ready to advise from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will also be a resume review workshop, beginning at 10 a.m. From 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., students will have the opportunity to learn about utilizing social media in their post-graduate job search, as well as workshopping their resumes and learning how to be successful and stand out in an interview process.

“Perhaps the most valuable aspect of the day is the opportunity to network. It’s important for our students to put faces to their names when it comes time to send out those resumes. You never know if the person you are talking to during Communication Career Day might be your ticket to a dream job,” said Professor George Bovenizer, a member of the Communication Career Day committee.

The keynote speaker, Brittany Fillmore, is a communications manager for Columbia Southern University and has a wide array of knowledge in the world of public relations and affairs.

“Almost every industry in the world needs effective PR so her advice and shared experiences will be valuable for all of our students,” Bovenizer said of this year’s speaker.

Be sure to come prepared with your resume, lots of questions, and a great attitude for this event!
