On Oct. 24, students lined up to create personalized dog tags at the Jag Tags event held in the Student Center. After signing in with their Jag ID, students could write out a message or choose a pre-made one to press into the tags.
They handed the messages off to a worker who typed it into a machine. The machine then pressed the message into the thin metal of the dog tags, which ranged from four-inch keychains to thirty-six-inch necklaces. Almost instantly, students walked off with their own custom dog tag in hand.
According to Courtney Williams, SGA’s Associate Justice, the event had a great turn out, almost better than expected. Williams explained that SGA spends time making sure their events do not clash with previously scheduled activities and give students enough time to drop by between classes.
“Each year the Homecoming Committee get together and decide what type of event to do during Homecoming week,” said Williams, “and this is something they thought students would be interested in. Usually, we sit down and consider how much these events cost and the interest of the students when we schedule Homecoming events.”
The SGA and its Homecoming Committee organized this event in hopes to build up school spirit for the homecoming game. Williams even created her own tag with ‘Go Jags’ pressed into the metal.
Student volunteers helped others design their tags and the line to get the tags never ceased.. The messages ranged from names and graduation years to school spirit engravings in honor of the parade scheduled for that evening.
